Your upcoming evaluation is an opportunity to speak openly with a licensed mental health professional. There are no “perfect” answers or expectations. The purpose of the appointment is to understand how you’re doing and determine the best way to support your health and well-being.
Preparing for Your Appointment
Bring any medical records, medications, or notes that you think may be helpful. If you’ve been experiencing symptoms or stressful situations, consider writing them down beforehand so you don’t forget to mention them during your appointment.
It’s completely okay to become emotional during your appointment. Many people cry, become anxious, or find it difficult to talk about what they’re experiencing. Your provider understands this and is there to support you without judgment.
Yes. You are encouraged to ask questions about your evaluation, treatment options, medications, follow-up care, or anything else you don’t understand. Your provider wants you to be informed and involved in your care.
Your provider will explain how your personal health information is protected and discuss any situations where information may need to be shared for safety or military readiness. If you have questions about confidentiality, don’t hesitate to ask.
Before you leave, make sure you understand any follow-up appointments, treatment recommendations, medications, or additional resources. If anything is unclear, ask for clarification before your appointment ends.
You don’t have to have all the answers today. Simply showing up is an important step toward taking care of yourself. Every step forward matters.
